The title of this actually relates back to my time in the Royal Military College of Canada (If you're a US visitor, think Westpoint, but in Canada). While I was there (transferred from Royal Roads Military College in 1992) I was in Squadron #6. We had our own traditions, but nothing as crazy as #1 or #5.
Let me take this time to make honourable mention of #1 Sqn's Elephant Walk and sanctioned Spider Races. As well, the rest of RMC thanks them for allowing us to join them in celebrating the Jump-In at First Freeze. Remember: it's only good if your feet break the skin of ice. We now return to the explanation, already in progress.
Squadron #5 had some odd traditions: Crazy Pants, and another dealing with Friday-night activities. Y'see, they used to put a sign on the door "This is Chicken and Porn Night; by entering, you affirm that you know what this is, and it does not offend you." What they were doing is renting porn and eating KFC. It became a regular event.
The key component of this event was not the porn, or indeed the chicken. Part of this event was the lark aspect: in a college of future gentleman officers (and ladies), what's the lowest form of entertainment? As well, it shows that standard procedure can be followed even in such a rigid atmosphere. Despite being mostly-officially arranged, there was still an air of civil disobedience, of being the bad boys, of stepping out of line, even if briefly and with official permission. I won't say any deep bonds formed over C & P, but there was a common escape from our surroundings to this oasis of silliness.
Now, years later, I had an ex-member of #1 Squadron over, and we were laughing about "Chicken and Porn Night", and figured it'd be funny to get that domain; any ex-RMC from that time period may recognize it, and chuckle. So I purchased it for $15/yr. For the record, I was not sober when I clicked OK. Some time later, I decided to put content online, and convinced a friend to draw me a graphic. He's promised to clean it up a bit, but now you know why things are as they appear.
Fast forward, many months later (OK, early summer 2002), and I see a massive spike on hits to my little webserver. Soon after, a movie called Porn 'n Chicken is publicized, and I wonder if anyone from #5 Squadron has influenced this movie or the recreational activity of the strike/sit-in that fueled the movie.
